Brenden Aaronson ‘could lose starting spot’ after Leeds United transfer development

Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson could lose his place in the starting line-up after the latest transfer development at Elland Road.

The American attacking midfielder has scored eight goals and notched two assists in 30 Championship matches this season.

However, the 24-year-old has endured an inconsistent season, frustrating and pleasing supporters in equal measure.

The Whites have been linked with a move for Eduard Spertsyan, a player who has worked with Daniel Farke before and could take Aaronson’s spot in the first-team fold. [Ivan Karpov, 1 February]

Aaronson on borrowed time at Leeds United?

It is a make-or-break season for the former Red Bull Salzburg star as patience runs out with the inconsistent nature of his performances.

On his day, Aaronson is excellent as highlighted by the win over Oxford United (21 December) in which he notched a goal and an assist.

However, more often than not he fails to contribute with his goal in the 7-0 thrashing of Cardiff (1 February) ending a five-game drought for the ex-Philadelphia Union ace.

Meanwhile, the Armenian has six goals and three assists in 18 matches in the Russian Premier League so far this campaign.

He bagged 11 goals and three assists in 33 matches last season proving himself to be a consistent threat to opposition defences.

If Spertsyan does arrive at Elland Road before the 3 February deadline then Aaronson might end up fearing for his future as a starter under Farke if the new man makes a big impression.
