Leeds United would like to sign a new number ten in January despite the form of Brenden Aaronson, according to TeamTalk.

The report on 1 January claimed that Daniel Farke would like to add an attacking midfielder to his squad even though the American has notched seven goals and two assists in 25 matches this season.

It states that the Whites are interested in Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer having enquired about him last summer.

However, the report dismissed a potential loan deal for Aston Villa's Emi Buendia due to the Argentine's unwillingness to play Championship football and the Premier League outfit wanting full payment of his £75,000 a week wages.

Aaronson is inconsistent at Leeds United

The problem for the American midfielder is that his performances for the Elland Road club are so inconsistent.

He has improved in recent weeks with his contributions including the third goal against Middlesbrough to put the game beyond doubt, a goal and an assist in the 4-1 hammering of Oxford United and a vital strike in the 1-0 win against Derby.

However, he has failed to contribute in three other matches in that period including the 1-1 draw with Blackburn on 1 January.

It is no wonder that Farke is interested in adding another player to his attacking midfield options given the Whites' struggles to break down teams with Aaronson in the role on Wednesday.

He needs to ensure that his side is promoted to the Premier League in a razor-close promotion battle in the second tier.

The promotion battle will be separated by fine margins and competition could either force Aaronson to become more consistent or give Farke a better replacement.
