Angus Kinnear left red-faced by Leeds United transfer decision

Angus Kinnear risks looking like an amateur at Leeds United as he prepares to recruit an attacking midfielder for Daniel Farke.

The Whites are preparing to submit a loan bid for Manchester City youngster James McAtee ahead of the January transfer window, but the urgency to add a number 10 to the ranks at Elland Road could have been avoided.

Alvyn Sanches was on the radar in West Yorkshire in the summer as a potential Georginio Rutter replacement after FC Lausanne-Sport lowered their valuation of the midfielder by 25 per cent, demanding a nominal £3 million fee for his services [Daily Express].

The 21-year-old has hit the ground running this season in Switzerland, contributing 11 goals and assists for Lausanne-Sport after he slipped through the cracks at Elland Road.

Leeds United should reignite interest in Alvyn Sanches

Kinnear should have pulled the trigger and brought Sanches to West Yorkshire when he could – his valuation is likely to explode following his exploits this year.

Sanches has averaged a goal contribution every four outings over his Lausanne career and is averaging a goal contribution every two matches this season.

Furthermore, the McAtee signing is not a guarantee – the 22-year-old is touted to be makeweight in a deal to bring Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz to Manchester [TBR Football].

Farke needs reinforcements in attacking midfield – Brenden Aaronson has held the weight on his shoulders alone all season, and the number of minutes is taking its toll on the American.

Leeds require two or more quality options in every position across the pitch to continue their march through the Championship this term, and Kinnear deserves to receive the brunt of the criticism for leaving Farke scrambling for options.

The Whites recouped significant funds through several big-money sales in the summer – there is no excuse for not providing Farke with the firepower he needs to secure a long-awaited Premier League return.
