49ers already start plans for Georginio Rutter exit at Leeds United after Brenden Aaronson update

Leeds United are set for a summer of change at Elland Road having missed out on promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs.

The Whites will almost certainly have to sell players to balance the books during the transfer window, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray already being linked with big-money moves away.

Daniel Farke will also have to deal with several players returning to Yorkshire following the end of loan spells away. One of which will be USA international Brenden Aaronson who spent the season with Union Berlin.

The 23-year-old struggled to impress in the Bundesliga, scoring only twice in 30 league appearances as the German side narrowly avoided relegation.

However, according to reports, the decision has been taken to keep Aaronson at Elland Road this summer after talks between Farke and other club officials in recent days [Graham Smyth, 10 June].

This won’t be news that most supporters will have been desperate to hear, but it could potentially hint at Leeds’ transfer plans for the remainder of the summer as they prepare to make another promotion push under Farke.

Will Leeds United sell Georginio Rutter during the summer transfer window at Elland Road?

While Georginio Rutter hasn’t been one of the names repeatedly linked with a move away from Leeds United, the call to keep Aaronson around over the summer could well suggest that succession plans are already being put in place.

The American has spent his time on loan playing as both a number nine and as an attacking midfielder, the two roles that Rutter has featured in under Farke. While he hasn’t been as prolific, sacrifices may have to be made.

Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson
Brenden Aaronson managed just one goal from 36 Premier League appearances in his first season at Leeds United.

Should a big money offer be made for the Frenchman who has been labelled “brilliant” by pundits and fans alike this season [LUTV, 9 December], they may not be in a position to turn it down as a Championship club.

It may be a bit of a jump, but it does feel like Farke, the 49ers and the rest of the team behind the scenes at Elland Road are already doing what they can to get ready for any of their biggest stars to depart in the coming weeks.
