Where Daniel Farke now stands among Premier League's longest-serving managers after Eddie Howe exit

Daniel Farke is no stranger to exit talk at Leeds United, yet he is now one of the longest-serving managers at any Premier League club.

Many expected Farke to be out of a job at Elland Road this time 12 months ago, despite guiding Leeds back to the Premier League.

That uncertainty only increased for the next three or four months, coinciding with United's season turning around in December.

There has been the odd murmurings since then, with the German himself not helping matters at the end of last season when saying he wants his ambitions matched.

While there appears no risk of Farke leaving anytime soon, the same looked true of Eddie Howe at Newcastle United.

That was before the shock news on Thursday that Howe is leaving Newcastle.

Daniel Farke climbs a spot in longest-serving managers list

As extensively covered by MOT Leeds News this month, Leeds are about to beat Newcastle to the signing of James Trafford.

It has been a difficult summer for the Magpies, who have also lost Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, while Bruno Guimaraes could join Arsenal.

And it has now been widely reported on Friday that Howe has left his position as manager after four years and 264 days in charge.

Howe was the second-longest serving boss in the Premier League, behind Arsenal's Mikel Arteta on six years and 220 days.

Unai Emery, who has worked wonders at Aston Villa, is now second at three years and 271 days.

That means Farke, rather incredibly, is third on the list at three years and 26 days.

It says an awful lot about the longevity of managers that Farke, appointed in July 2023, is third on the list.

What has happened to cool Farke sack news?

It was only a couple of months ago that fresh talk regarding Farke's future emerged.

Speaking in mid-May, when Leeds' Premier League safety was confirmed, Farke said he is "not the right choice" if the owners' ambitions do not match his.

It came as a shock, and was a first in that now Farke had some bargaining power to use given he had achieved his aim for the season.

Leeds chiefs have certainly shown ambition, though, as Trafford is set to arrive for £40million, while Tarik Muharemovic signed for £34.1m.

Harry Wilson arriving as a free agent is also some superb transfer business, and hopefully Leeds - plus 'long-serving' Farke - are not finished there.
