Leeds chief confirms Daniel Farke contract talks amid fear things could 'fall apart behind the scenes'

Leeds United officials have been in talks with Daniel Farke regarding a new contract.

The Whites have been in discussions with the German head coach all summer after he managed to keep the club in the Premier League.

Leeds are keen to keep the 49-year-old at Elland Road, but there have been some doubts over whether the latter wants the same.

Farke hinted that if his vision is not aligned with the club's, he will leave for a new challenge, but there has since been plenty of important work done in the transfer window.

Paraag Marathe and Co. splashed out over £85million in the summer window, bringing seven new faces to Elland Road for their head coach.

Still, there have been some concerns that Farke may not renew terms in LS11, as Leeds' managing director Robbie Evans has now provided clarity for supporters.

Leeds want to keep Farke at the club for their long-term future, and hope that he can steer the Whites into Europe.

The former Norwich City boss was almost sacked last winter, but a second half display against Manchester City changed everything at Elland Road.

Leeds have completely changed their identity, but not their principles under Farke, and look like one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League.

While speaking to The Athletic, Leeds' managing director confirmed contract talks with Farke and gave further insight into how things are progressing.

Evans said: "Daniel’s done a fantastic job here, and we’re thrilled with the last couple of seasons. As for the contract discussions themselves, Daniel’s team and I have had really good chats for the last three months.

"I know some might fear a deal not being done might cause things to fall apart behind the scenes, but it’s actually been the opposite of that.

"We simply haven’t got the deal done yet, but we’re working towards a solution. And when there’s news, we’ll share it with you."

He compared it to the time it took to tie the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Brenden Aaronson and Jayden Bogle down to new terms, insisting things have to be right for all parties.

Nevertheless, it appears that things have definitely not broken down behind the scenes, and there is a willingness from all involved to reach an agreement.

What three-year plan could Leeds present Farke with?

Farke's contract expires in June of 2027, and it's highly likely that Leeds would want to agree to an extension until 2030.

If that is the case, the Whites will need to match his ambition by setting out a strategic and progressive plan for the next three seasons at the very least.

The plan for this season could be for Leeds to finish in the top half of the table, building on survival from last campaign.

Then the 2027-28 campaign could have a clear target of achieving European football after another strong summer of spending, with the goal for the following 2028-29 season being to achieve the same, while simultaneously pushing for a trophy.

Leeds need to aim high, because Farke knows his worth now.
