YEP journalist: Leeds midfielder who’s featured regularly in Bielsa matchday squad suffers knock
Leeds United midfielder Robbie Gotts was not included in the Under-23s side that drew 2-2 against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday afternoon.
Gotts, 20, has featured regularly in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team this season with him making the Argentine’s matchday squad on 21 occasions in all competitions despite only making one appearance.
However it seems as though the midfielder was unavailable for selection for Carlos Corberan at Hillsborough this week with Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Urquhart reporting that the youngster was suffering from a “little knock”.
Clearly it seems that Gotts’ setback is nothing serious and he should be back in contention to play soon enough but Bielsa has not named him on the bench in the Championship since New Years Day when Leeds drew 1-1 at Wets Brom.
Has Gotts been suffering with an injury that has been more long-term than what has been made out? Or was his display in the defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup on January 6 enough for Bielsa to think he needs to drop the Harrogate-born ace from his squad altogether?
Either way, Leeds’ Under-23s are back in action on Friday when they play against Derby County in the Premier League Cup at Tadcaster.
They then welcome Bolton’s Under-23s to Thorp Arch next Monday, so there are a couple of fixtures to play in the space of four days where Gotts could be pencilled in to make his return from injury.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa has reacted to West Brom going top of the Championship.
