Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui furious at not getting penalty v Leeds United

Tony Jones claims that Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui was fuming when they were not handed a penalty against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Whites defender Junior Firpo was deemed to have brought down Nelson Semedo, but the replay clearly showed he made contact with the ball.

The penalty wasn’t given and Leeds went on to win the game 4-2 and climbed up to 14th spot on the table.

Jones, a Sky Sports commentator, said on the Premier League world feed (18/03, 15:08),

Not a penalty

Firpo clearly got a toe on the ball and one cannot overrule the referee’s call as it’s not a clear and obvious error.

Lopetegui has been salty in the post-match interviews and claims that the former Barcelona left-back injured Semedo, which is ludicrous.

It’s fair to be angry but this is ridiculous and it just sounds like the Portuguese manager is a sore loser.

Firpo has really upped his game over the past few games and fans couldn’t be happier for him as he was a much maligned player last season.

He’s silencing his critics and keeping Pascal Struijk and Max Wober away from his left-back spot – something that few thought would happen.

Defensively, there is still work to be done but the player he was 12 months ago is far inferior to the one he’s now blossomed into.
