Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui issues transfer update on Adama Traore amid Leeds United links

Julen Lopetegui has remained coy over the future of attacker Adama Traore amid links with Leeds United in January.

TeamTalk reported earlier in December that the Spain international is expected to leave once the window opens with Elland Road being his most likely destination.

That said, Lopetegui has claimed that the club will try to keep him but has not assured the fans that he will stay put at the club.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted, “Wolves will offer Adama Traoré a new deal soon, Julen Lopetegui confirms: ‘We trust Adama and we are going to try, of course, to have him continue here’. 🚨🟠 #WWFC

‘I like Adama, so we will see — I don’t know what’s gonna happen’.”

This does seem like a bullet dodged as Traore would be a poor addition to what is an extremely fluid front four at Elland Road.

Leeds do need an attacker in January, but they need someone who can play down the middle and lead the line with aplomb.

They need a number nine whose movement is a nightmare for defenders and who can be relied on to score over 10 Premier League goals per season.

Traore, despite his 172 Premier League appearances, is still extremely unreliable in front of goal and prefers playing out wide – a position Leeds do not need to strengthen in.

They’ve signed Luis Sinisterra in the summer and he looks like the real deal despite recently being unlucky with injuries.

Crysencio Summerville has also stepped up to the plate recently and has been an absolute freak of nature in front of goal for Leeds.

Instead of Traore, Leeds need to prioritise a proper number nine and hopefully, the work to secure that signing has already begun behind the scenes for them.

In other Leeds United news, an attacker linked with a move to Elland Road claims that he could leave his Champions League club in the January transfer window.
