Willy Gnonto FC Zurich ‘contractual clauses’ emerge at Leeds United

FC Zurich could be set for a large cash windfall should Leeds United sell Willy Gnonto during the summer transfer window, according to Blick.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a fine first season in English football and according to Calciomercato on 30 May, Manchester City and Arsenal are monitoring his situation.

Blick reported on Thursday 1 June, that Gnonto’s former employers included a series of “contractual clauses” after the agreement with Leeds was reached.

It’s believed that Leeds’ relegation could now see millions “rain” on the Swiss side if Gnonto does depart Elland Road this summer. It’s understood Zurich would receive payments based on bonuses and rewards, subject to the number of appearances, points amassed and resale.

No surprise

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Italian was picked up for next to nothing last summer and has gone on to be one of Leeds’ most promising players. His form tailed off towards the back end of the season, but there’s no doubt that he has what it takes to perform in the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see if Leeds do look to cash in on the youngster this summer. Along with Jack Harrison and Tyler Adams, Gnonto is one of the club’s most valuable assets. It remains to be seen what funds are going to be available, but if Leeds do need to wheel and deal, then the 19-year-old will be one the prime candidates to move on.

If he does stay put, the winger could cause havoc in the Championship. He’s far too good to be playing in the second tier of English football and would provide Leeds with a quality edge should remain in West Yorkshire. This is certainly one to keep an eye on during the course of the summer window.

In other Leeds United news, the future of one Whites-linked manager is now up in the air after a high-level resignation at his current club.
