'Who knows?' - Robbie Savage makes shock Leeds-FA Cup prediction after sarcastic dig at Whites
Robbie Savage has surprisingly questioned if teams such as Leeds United could lift the FA Cup this season as the competition enters the third round.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men travel to League Two side Crawley Town on Sunday afternoon, as they look to avoid an exit at the same stage as last season.
The controversial pundit fired a dig at the Whites for their defeat at Spurs before claiming that they could go all the way in the cup competition.
Speaking to William Hill and Emma Jones, Savage sarcastically took apart the Whites for their display against Tottenham last weekend.
“What a year for Leeds to end it – they didn’t concede four, they only conceded three at Spurs,” he joked.
Later in the video, Savage was asked for his winners of the FA Cup and suggested whether or not a club such as Leeds or Leicester could lift the silverware.
“I would say, can a Leeds, can a Leicester surprise people? Listen, Wigan won it, Portsmouth have won it, Everton won it all those years ago. Who knows? There may be a surprise this season.”
No one will be expecting Leeds to lift the FA Cup this season, but it would certainly be a moment to remember.
It is all about the luck of the draw, and the Whites are starting with a so-called easy tie on paper travelling to a League Two side in Crawley.
Look at Brentford in the Carabao Cup, no one will have expected them to reach the semi-finals this week.
The Bees were given games against the likes of Newcastle, Fulham and West Brom – all Premier League sides that were severely struggling at the time.
Bielsa takes these competitions seriously, and with some luck in the draw, Leeds could go as far as they could with the players in this squad.
