Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has admitted texting his agent concerned when the Whites smashed their transfer record to sign Rodrigo.

Marcelo Bielsa brought in the Spanish international from Valencia for £27million, and he has since cemented his spot in the playmaker role.

Bamford has formed a great partnership with Rodrigo, with the former Boro forward already scoring 10 times in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Leeds United Podcast on YouTube, Bamford shared his worries over his spot under Bielsa at Elland Road.

"In the summer when we were linked with Rodrigo, I was texting Jay [agent], obviously I was thinking, they're signing the Spanish number nine, I'm just going to be on the bench all season," he said.

"He said 'no, no, no' he's looking at him because he can play with you in the number 10. I think that the fact we were signing him motivated me to make sure that I'm on it.

"As soon as I saw him, you could see how good he was."

Bamford has smashed his critics away this season and has proved himself alongside the likes of Rodrigo and Raphinha.

The Whites and Bielsa have proved that they are willing to stick with the players that got them to the Premier League, and it certainly hasn't backfired yet.

The 27-year-old is going through the best season of his career at the highest level.

In his 17 appearances since promotion, Bamford has scored 10 goals and is performing at the same level or better than the likes of Sadio Mane, Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane.

Rodrigo is getting better with each performance, but we still believe he has more to give, and based on Bamford's latest evaluation, we cannot wait to see it.
