‘What about Leeds?’ – Sky Sports pundit makes declaration about 19/20 Championship
Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent has said that the football world needs to look below the Premier League to Leeds United, who are “playing really well” and deserve to get promoted.
Talking on the Breakfast show on Monday morning (talkSPORT, 7am) Bent said that most fans were talking about Liverpool getting the Premier League title.
However, Bent said that Leeds deserved the sympathy and attention of the football world too, after coming so close to winning promotion last season.
“Leeds are so close – they should have come up last season,” Bent said.
“They’re playing really really well at the moment, I think it’s five wins on the bounce, five clean sheets. West Brom are up there too.
“Many fans are more sympathetic to Liverpool at the moment, they’re so far clear at the top of the league.
“Some people think they should be handed the title but you can’t just hand the title out.
“But you’re right, what about Leeds? What about the teams that are trying to get out of the Championship and into the play-offs, what happens there?”
The Premier League is dominating the sporting headlines at the moment as the authorities look for a way to get the season finished.

Money talks and the Times has reported that the Premier League is facing a £750m bill if it doesn’t complete the 19/20 season.
But Bent is right to shine a light on the Championship.
The future of the EFL is more uncertain, with the FA already having voided part of the non-league set-up.
Further down there are actually financial incentives to void the season with some clubs facing financial ruin if they have to keep players under contract for up to six months without any gate receipts.
For Leeds, promotion could be worth up to £200m and after coming close last season, it would surely be unthinkable for them to be denied again with the season getting voided.
We’re sure that would lead to legal battles and we’re convinced that if the Premier League does play out, Leeds will end up getting promoted one way or another.
