Weston McKennie agrees £67,000-a-week deal to join Leeds United, more than what Juventus paid him
Leeds United’s expected new signing Weston McKennie has agreed to a £67,000-a-week deal at Elland Road, which will be more than what he earned at Juventus, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
An agreement has finally been reached between the Whites and Juventus to bring the American midfielder in before the close of the January transfer window, with the player expected in England on Sunday [29 January] to complete his medical and the final details of the deal [Fabrizio Romano, 28 January].
Sky Sports Italy [28 January] reported: “Juventus and Leeds have reached a verbal agreement: a 1.5 million euro loan with a fixed redemption right of 35 million which can become an obligation under certain conditions.

It will be the club’s third signing of the January window after completing moves for Maximilian Wober and Georginio Rutter.
And according to Gazzetta Dello Sport [29 January, page two], the American international has agreed to personal terms worth £67,000-a-wk which is more than his £49,000-a-wk deal at Juventus.
Also, the report goes on to state that the club’s American contingent in Tyler Adams, Brendan Aaronson and boss Jesse Marsch were the deciding factors in his wish to move to Elland Road, along with the club’s American part-owners 49ers Enterprises.
Big money
McKennie is on course to become amongst the club’s top five highest earners at £67,000 which means Leeds means business with this signing.
The American is expected to come in and add much-needed quality to a midfield that has lacked creativity and invention in the final third.

The 24-year-old has proven throughout his career that he holds the quality and talents to become a top star within Europe’s top five leagues, and the Whites will feel incredibly fortunate to be the club he’s chosen.
What’s even more enticing for Marsch and the Leeds fans is his potential partnership with his international teammate Adams who both shared an impressive World Cup together for the United States in their run to the round of 16.
If Marsch can get both of them playing at the same levels in his midfield in the coming weeks, then the club should be on course to fulfil its ambitions come May. And staying in the Premier League is indeed the top priority.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites appear to be on the cusp of another January signing as a player’s agent jets into the United Kingdom to conduct final transfer talks.
