Watford originally demanded £35million for striker Joao Pedro with Newcastle and Leeds United reportedly keen on signing him.

According to 90Min, the Toons remain confident of finalising a deal for the Brazilian and already have an offer of £30million including add-ons on the table for him.

The likes of Everton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Leicester are also understood to be in the race along with Leeds.

Worth pursuing?

The 20-year-old has Premier League experience and the potential to be one of the best forwards in the league in the next five years.

As a teenager, he’s showcased why he deserves to be a regular at a top flight club so the assumption is that he will get better with time.

The fact that a number of clubs are interested in signing him suggests that he’s definitely ticking a number of boxes and would be a good signing at Elland Road.

Given Patrick Bamford’s injury record, it does make sense to invest big money in a striker and signing Pedro for that price will smash the club’s transfer record.

We’re unsure if Victor Orta wants to do that or if Jesse Marsch has other preferences in mind but they need to sign a striker ahead of their next league game.

They cannot let this drag on until deadline day and then pay over the odds for a player that may not even be that keen to move but is picking Leeds as a last resort.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a final push for an international striker after he was left out of his side’s matchday squad over the weekend.
