View: Raphinha effect kicks in as Maguire posts major £112m Leeds United reveal

Leeds United have shown the biggest growth in their squad value over any side in Europe over the last 12 months.

The figures come from KPMG and were relayed by football finance guru Kieran Maguire who runs the Price of Football podcast.

The value of the squad has increased by £112m (€130.3m) and now stands at £207m (€249.9m).

Leeds spent a significant sum of money on players in the summer transfer window but have also seen existing players get a big bump in value after proving themselves in the Premier League.

Leeds also did some pretty canny business in the summer, with Raphinha looking like the steal of the century at £17m.

He’s definitely increased the value of the Leeds squad and will be taking it up every game he plays in the form he’s in at the moment.

Leeds are likely going to spend big money again this summer but the difference is that this time we expect some of our Championship heroes to move on.

That will be sad but progress has no room for sentiment and it’s always team before self at Leeds.

One player we hope doesn’t move on is Raphinha.

He’s being talked about in ever-more glowing terms each week and speculation has already grown about how much more he’s worth now than the £17m Leeds paid for him.

Journalists like Phil Hay and Graham Smyth have been speculating with figures mentioned from £25m up to £50m, and if he keeps playing like is he is at the moment then the higher end of that will be the more realistic.

Andrea Radrizzani will be very happy with that bit of business and the fact that as a business, Leeds are looking good whatever metric you use to judge it.
