Victor Orta lifts the lid on working with Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United director of football, Victor Orta says it’s “really easy” to work with Marcelo Bielsa.

There have been rumours that Marcelo Bielsa has got high demands and that the pair share a terse relationship, framed by fall-outs and arguments.

Orta has suggested that whatever has been written or spoken in the media between the pair is “absolutely not true”.

The director of football explained that Bielsa knows what kind of player he wants to sign. The Argentine has a clear vision for his team, while Orta too has a clear idea about the style of football Leeds want to implement.

“It’s really easy to work with Marcelo Bielsa. I know you are expecting the other headline about the relationship and the rumours, but it is absolutely not true,” Orta said at StatsBomb Conference 2021 held at Stamford Bridge.

“For me, one of things about Marcelo is easy to work with, is he knows what kind of player he wants.

“He knows what kind of player he can take performance. He knows what is the style of player we need and, for me, this is one of the circumstances in my career was really clear about the style of football we are practising and the style of football Marcelo wants for individual players in individual roles.”

Big summer ahead

Leeds have struggled this season badly, and have managed only two wins thus far in the Premier League.

Last season, the Whites finished ninth in the Premier League, but this term, they haven’t been able to replicate those performances.

The Whites are now sitting just above the relegation zone, although they are expected to climb up the ladder and pick up their form.

Andrea Radrizzani, the club’s owner, has recently hinted that Leeds will look to spend big in the summer transfer window show they avoid relegation this season.

It will be interesting to see how Leeds operate in the transfer market next season. Will the club offer Bielsa a long-term deal so that he can rebuild the squad to his own taste? Will they go after a new young manager who has got a distinct footballing philosophy?
