Victor Orta answers Rodrigo De Paul to Leeds rumours

Victor Orta has assessed a possible Leeds United move for long-term target Rodrigo De Paul ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Director of Football appeared on The Phil Hay Show on Friday and discussed his and the club’s approach to transfers.

He spoke about how deals can often be complicated, citing Dan James, and was then asked whether his words meant a move for Rodrigo De Paul was on the cards.

In response, Orta said, “I know that you love to look at the favouriting of the tweet and now he is our player.

“I don’t know, it’s really difficult, it’s a player with a good evaluation, and we have ambition.”

High profile signing

It may be unlikely that we will see Rodrigo De Paul arrive at Thorp Arch this summer but Orta’s stance is still positive.

He says the club holds ambition and it appears we are ready to take the next step after establishing ourselves back in the top tier.

The sticking point with De Paul seems to be the valuation, something that Orta admitted held them back last summer.

Orta was realistic in his assessment and acknowledged the club is not yet at a level to appeal to the biggest names.

He is wary of past mistakes made by his predecessors and is therefore keen not to repeat their errors.

That is a relief as it shows he has the best interests of the club at heart, both short-term and long-term.

As a result, we expect Orta to try and find the next Rodrigo De Paul, a player with similar attributes but a lesser-known profile.

In doing so, Leeds should get a cheaper deal, like we did for Raphinha, and Orta has proved he can find a gem or two in his time here.
