Leeds fans will love the way Kyle Bartley bid farewell to Gaetano Berardi last Sunday
Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi paid his respects to former Whites star Kyle Bartley after the pair embraced at the end of Sunday’s game with West Brom.
The fixture was Berardi’s last as a Leeds player but he bowed out in the right way with a 3-0 win.
It brings an end to his seven-year spell at Elland Road, with one of those seasons spent playing alongside Bartley, who joined on loan in 2016/17.
The duo clearly formed a close relationship during their time together and warmly embraced after the full-time whistle.
Berardi shared a photo of the exchange on his Instagram story with a caption that read “respect”.
Great club servant
Berardi may not always have had a successful time at Elland Road but he will always be remembered for the role he played in helping us get back to the Premier League.
He has been here since the Massimo Cellino days and that alone means he deserves credit.
He has seen several managers and teammates come and go but always given his all, and it is no surprise the team started to improve once he was signed.
We made a bit of progress under Garry Monk with Bartley and Berardi at the back, and Marcelo Bielsa showed faith in the Swiss when he came to the club.
It is a shame Berardi has not been able to test himself in the top-flight due to injury, as it is possible he could have earned himself a new contract.
It was not meant to be, and now Leeds have the chance to sign an exciting upgrade in the summer.
