‘Unbelievable’, ‘Always had faith’ – These fans react to EFL tweet about Leeds United

The EFL has sent out a tweet highlighting the impact of Kalvin Phillips, calling him “A leader on the pitch and a role model off it…” and Leeds United fans have reacted on Twitter.

The accompanying article aksed whether he is one of the “finest midfield talents outside the Premier League” and ended by saying that it was only a matter of time before he played for England.

It quoted Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe as saying, “I don’t see many players in his exact position who look much better than him.”

It didn’t just talk about his skills on the pitch, though, detailing his work in the Leeds community too.

Leeds fans don’t need to be told how good Phillips is now or the difference he makes to the Bielsa system – although one fan said that there was a time when he didn’t think he was good enough and admitted that sounds “unbelievable” now.

Phillips is Leeds-born and made his intent to play in the Premier League with his hometown club clear when he signed a new contract after last summer’s transfer window that was packed with speculation about him moving on.

Seeing him get this sort of wider recognition is great and fair play to the EFL for focusing on the Yorkshire Pirlo.

Leeds fans aren’t big fans of the EFL but they were very pleased to see this tweet go out – although one questioned whether it was to soften the path to voiding the season and denying Leeds promotion. That seems unlikely.
