Udinese will not stand in the way of Leeds United-linked Rodrigo De Paul leaving the club in the summer if the right offer comes in for the midfielder.
De Paul has been linked strongly with a move to Leeds and Athletic journalist Phil Hay revealed that he “definitely, definitely wants to come”.
On Tuesday, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla quoted Udinese’s sporting director Pierpaolo Marino as saying, “With the characteristics he [De Paul] has, which many teams in Europe lack, whoever takes him next year will be improved.
“As a Udinese official I hope he will stay but if the right offer arrives, obviously we will not force Rodrigo to stay.
“We know he deserves the chance with a great club and we will see what happens in the summer.”
South American and European football expert Andy Brassell said on talkSPORT last week that he thought De Paul moving to Leeds was “inevitable”.
De Paul love-in, but…
Leeds United fans want De Paul. De Paul wants Leeds. It just seems that there isn’t as much enthusiasm in the Leeds hierarchy.
Leeds were interested in the summer and Phil Hay claims talks were held but it seems that it was Udinese’s valuation that scuppered the deal.
Will that have changed enough? It’s possible. It’s another year through De Paul’s contract, although he’ll still have two years left of his five-year deal.
Leeds have money to spend after the 49ers extra investment and it could be that his impressive season is enough to convince Leeds to push the boat out for him.
We’d love to see him at Leeds, we’re just completely convinced it’s going to happen.
Certainly, if Juventus come sniffing, it would be hard to come out on top in a head-to-head battle.
And it seems that Udinese want big bucks for a player who has set Serie A alight this season.
