Two Opta statistics highlight major Leeds United transformation under Bielsa
Opta Joe have recently shared two statistics via their Twitter handle, highlighting how Marcelo Bielsa has helped Leeds United punch above their weight in the Premier League.
Leeds United secured promotion last season and in their first season back up under Bielsa, finished in an impressive 9th position on the league on the league table.
Until a few games to go before the end of the season, the Whites were even in contention for finishing in the European spots, as 7th would’ve guaranteed them UEFA Europa Conference League status.
As the stats mention above, Bielsa has suddenly got this side in a league of their own, and are miles clear of the rest of the chasing pack.
Murderball, high-intensity half-time routines and a fixed playing philosophy regardless of the scoreline has led to Leeds succeeding on the field of play.
What a manager
There was a reason why the fanbase was so pumped about Bielsa’s arrival and after three years at the helm, their faith has been rewarded.
Not only are we back in the top half of the Premier League, but we’ve also got there in style, securing promotion and playing superior teams off the park due to our high intensity and commitment to the cause.
Most of our first-team regulars this past season were there in the season we secured promotion, meaning Bielsa did not rely on Victor Orta to sanction big-money signings to get us to where we are.
We’re certainly going to be spending if we are to sustain, but the main reason for our success has been the work put in on the training pitch.
An argument can be made for a majority of the players being better now than they were before Bielsa took over.
The likes of Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas, and Patrick Bamford, most notably, have revelled under the Argentine and have been the pillars of our recent success.
