Two Championship promotion contenders want exciting Leeds starlet on loan - report

Cardiff City and Bournemouth are among the teams interested in signing Leeds United youngster Sam Greenwood on loan.

According to a report from Wales Online, Neil Harris’ side are ‘well-placed’ to sign the striker on loan in January following a raft of first-team injuries.

They will not be alone in vying for the youngster’s signature, with Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday also believed to be interested.

Cardiff are without their talisman Kieffer Moore, while both Isaac Vassell and Lee Tomlin are also sidelined.

First-team opportunities there for the taking

It was reported earlier in the week that Greenwood has been impressing Football League scouts, but the fact it is two promotion hopefuls that are seriously considering loan moves highlights his quality and potential.

Bournemouth and Cardiff would both represent two good opportunities to try and fight for promotion to the Premier League.

The injuries at Cardiff, as unfortunate as they are for Harris and his squad, could open up a chance for Greenwood to get regular first-team minutes under his belt during the second half of the season.

Bournemouth can already call upon both Sam Surridge and Dominic Solanke in the final third, which could hinder Greenwood’s options at the Vitality.

Greenwood is an exciting talent – we’ve seen enough of him in the under-23s to know he’s heading for the Leeds first team squad, possibly as early as next season.

He has scored six times for the U-23s this season, so the last thing Leeds want to do is send him out on loan to a club where he will not get regular minutes.

The report does also not rule out the possibility that Marcelo Bielsa might look to use Greenwood in the first-team squad in the near future.
