Trevor Sinclair claims Leeds job would suit Gareth Southgate, Jim White baffled
Trevor Sinclair has insisted that Leeds United would offer the job to Gareth Southgate if England didn’t tie him down to a new contract.
Marcelo Bielsa is on rolling contracts at Elland Road and never signs on for more than one year, something which will shine a spotlight on his future again in the summer.
Jim White was left baffled by the suggestion from Sinclair, insinuating that he was barking up the wrong tree.
Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Sinclair insisted that Bielsa may not be around at Elland Road for much longer.
“You look at Leeds will Bielsa, you don’t know how that’s going to pan out,” he said.
“He obviously lives in Leeds, I think that’d be a club that would be very interested in Gareth Southgate.”
White was left laughing at the suggestion, admitting that geography will have nothing to do with who takes over from Bielsa.
“I’m not sure he would get the Leeds job because he lives in Harrogate.”
This is one of those that we can simply cross off the list instantly.
Southgate is fully concentrated on the future with England and going into the World Cup in Qatar next season, no chance he would leave that in the summer.
The FA have looked to tie Southgate down to his country for more years and that is the priority for him, never mind going into club management at this stage.
Victor Orta will be at the head of the manager hunt, and he will likely go down the European route again, possibly even South American to keep on the good work from Bielsa.
Would Southgate do that? Not likely.
The next move after Bielsa is critical, and Leeds simply can’t afford to get that wrong moving into the next stage of the club.
