Tottenham Hotspur likely to have strongest interest to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have the “strongest interest” among Chelsea and Barcelona to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

According to TEAMtalk [11 April], the North London club want to sign a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris and have identified his compatriot as an option.

Chelsea and Barcelona have also shown a keenness to sign the Frenchman who recently became the youngest to make 100 appearances in the Premier League in his position.

Spark a bidding war

If Meslier wants to leave, as recent interviews have hinted that he would be open to the idea, Leeds must spark a bidding war for his transfer.

“It would be a mistake to project oneself so far. There are many steps before that: a continuation to be sought with Leeds, the Euro Espoirs [U21 championship] in June,” Meslier told Ouest France.

“To succeed in all of this, I have to be good. Because no one will come looking for me if I am not. And if I am asked, I will take the time to think about my future with a clear head.”

This clearly sounds like someone who’s got plans of taking a step up in his career and give his age, Leeds can demand a lot of money.

He is one of the top young keepers in Europe and despite having a relatively bad season, he’s still undoubtedly got it in him to reach the top if he continues to improve.

If Leeds receive around what they did for Raphinha then they will be happy to cash in on him and sign someone cheaper who’s perhaps more established.

Spurs or Chelsea will get a nice ball-playing keeper with Premier League experience and then he can grow into that role there.

Both sides are owned by billionaires and spend a lot of money every summer so will not mind entering a bidding war if they’re really keen on signing him.
