Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte fan of Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is reportedly a fan of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to the Telegraph, the Spurs manager is keen on signing the England international but will have to beat Manchester United to his services.

It is understood that Daniel Levy may not be able to pay as much as the Manchester outfit, which could see the Reds winning the bidding war.

Spurs are also looking to sign homegrown players in this window and the 26-year-old fits that criteria for them.

Long-drawn saga

The Phillips saga is going to continue right until the end of the summer transfer window.

Currently, on paltry £25k-a-week wages, it’s no surprise if clubs come in and offer to quadruple his wages.

He clearly is underpaid at Leeds and although he does have an offer on the table from them it makes sense why he’s waiting to see what’s best for him.

Phillips is undoubtedly a Champions League level player and neither Spurs nor Man United are guaranteed to play in that competition next season.

Signing a new deal at Leeds could see Phillips protecting his boyhood club in the transfer market.

He would probably demand a reasonable release clause that may not be out of the reach of England’s top clubs.

That said, the fact that there are talks about one team offering more than the other means that no such pre-determined amount exists.

The Whites will look to drive up his price if they want to cash in this summer, but it looks like they’re keen on keeping him for at least another season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
