Tony Mowbray issues update on future of Leeds United target Ben Brereton
Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has stated that striker Ben Brereton will not leave for free, amid links to Leeds United.
According to Football League World, the Whites are keen on bringing the 22-year-old striker to Elland Road as his extension talks have stalled at the Lancashire club.
Despite his current deal running out in the summer, Mowbray has confirmed that they have an option to extend it until the end of next season which will ensure he doesn’t leave for free.
He said, via the Lancashire Telegraph, “He’s not walking away for nothing in the summer. How much do you pay Ben Brereton to keep him happy and stay at this club and keep the journey going? Or when does he cut off and say he’s not signing so you decide what you want to do?
“I’d like to think we can give Ben a new contract because I believe the best way to leave the club would be if someone offers an amount of money that would just be stupid to turn down and we could buy three £5million players on the back of it and then give yourselves a real chance and expectation to get promotion.”
Not convincing enough

Mowbray clearly wants the young attacker to stay, but given his comments, he’s not convinced that his future lies at Ewood Park.
He clearly speaks about not losing him on a free which means that January and this summer are realistically the only two windows the club can get anything from his sale.
Brereton clearly is not a Championship player and unless Rovers miraculously get promoted to the top flight, he will not stay there.
One thing is certain that should he leave, they will be pretty well compensated for him, given the queue of clubs keen on securing his services.
Champions League side Sevilla are also interested in the 22-year-old which only says just how rated he is not just in England, but all across the continent.
The Chile international would be a fantastic signing for Leeds and it remains to be seen whether this materialises into anything concrete.
