Tony Dorigo backs Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to shine
Tony Dorigo has backed Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to shine under Jesse Marsch.
Bamford, who came on as a substitute against Arsenal, missed a crucial penalty as the Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat in their previous game.
The BT Sport pundit has hailed the England striker as “incredible”, suggesting he would surely get back to scoring again shortly.
“Bamford is incredible when he’s in a hot streak and even if he’s not, he offers something to the team that no one else does, so he changed the game,” wrote Dorigo for Yorkshire Evening Post.
“We are just desperate for him to score and he was really positive, grabbing the ball for the penalty and even the second one, after missing the first.
“He’s long in the tooth, though, he understands that it will turn because he’s getting in the right positions and getting chances. If would defy the law of probability if we and he play like that and don’t start scoring. At some point it will turn.”
Bamford is a terrific striker and Leeds are heavily relying on him to deliver.
In the press conference ahead of the game against Leicester City, Jesse Marsch has made it very clear that his side need to score goals to win matches.
Bamford was injured for a long time, and keeping him fit is a big challenge.
Against Arsenal, Bamford made a big impact in the second half. However, he needs to be handled carefully.
At the start of the season, Rodrigo started really well and scored some important goals. But his form has dropped suddenly after the international break.
Je Gelhardt and Wilfried Gnonto are young talents and they should be eased into the side gradually, and the club should not have huge expectations from them immediately.
It’s Bamford, they have to rely on, until they sign someone in January.
The England international is a typical modern-day striker. He not only scores goals but drops deep to help in the build up play. He brings a lot more to the game, and that’s why he is so vital to this team.
