Tony Cascarino hails ‘entertaining and aggressive’ Leeds in verbal attack on Arsenal

Tony Cascarino has slammed Arsenal’s style of play while paying a glowing tribute to the work achieved by Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s GameDay Breakfast [06:00, 10/04/21] the former Millwall striker tore into Mikel Arteta’s side for failing to outperform the Whites.

“They’ve got the same points as Leeds but they are not even close to resembling what Leeds are like and their playing style,” he said.

“Leeds have scored more than them but Leeds have a real intent and they really try to produce openings with purpose.

“Arsenal sit off teams, I can’t believe what I’m watching Thursday night, a team that’s getting 11 behind the ball.”

He added: “But Leeds? Don’t compare a Leeds team who are far more entertaining, far more aggressive with the same points with a manager who plays with intent and purpose, the two styles are completely opposite.”

Cascarino’s gone big – he doesn’t rate Arsenal and he loves Leeds, who can blame him?

The Gunners are a sterile side who often pass for passing’s sake, polar opposites to this Whites side under Bielsa that attack with real purpose.

Granted, we were given a first-half hiding in North London on Valentine’s Day when they put three past us before emerging as 4-2 victors.

But that game seems to have been an outlier and they could count themselves fortunate to escape from Elland Road with a point earlier on in the season.

Despite being a newly-promoted side we have netted seven more goals than Arsenal, an impressive feat considering they are perennial European challengers.

But their star seems to be fading while ours is shining brighter than ever and there is the distinct possibility that we finish above them this season.

That will be just reward for a Bielsa side that takes the initiative to teams and creates excitement while Arsenal continue to dull spectators under Arteta.
