Timely boost for Marsch as Leeds United duo set to return after international break

Leeds United duo – Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper – could return after the international break, and it will be a massive boost for Jesse Marsch.

According to Beren Cross, previously it was hoped that Phillips could return in February, but it hasn’t panned out.

Phillips has returned to light training but he is unlikely to feature against Wolves. However, a role in the bench against Southampton won’t be a bad target.

“The last we heard from Marsch suggested the international break would be a useful time to get him and Cooper back onto the grass and involved in full training,” wrote Cross in a Q/A session with Leeds Live.

“Perhaps a place on the bench against Southampton may be a nice target, but it really has dragged on. There were some optimistic assessments of him being back in early February at one stage, but obviously that hasn’t panned out for him.”

Cooper has also hinted that he has returned to training and it won’t be long before the duo returns to action, possibly after the international break.

The 2-1 victory against Norwich City has given Leeds a breathing space.

The Whites were staring at relegation having lost seven out of the last eight games, the other one being a draw, prior to that fixture.

They have missed the services of Phillips and Cooper badly. However, both the players could play a vital role in the remaining games as they look to avoid relegation.

The Whites needed to win against Norwich, but the manner of the victory, a late goal from Joe Gelhardt, could be a turning in their season.

Next up, Wolves. Bruno Lage’s side has one of the best defences in the league. They are so solid at the back and they hardly concede goals.

It will be interesting to see how Leeds approach the game, as even a draw won’t be a bad result at Molineux.

Leeds should be careful with Phillips and Jesse Marsch should gradually integrate him. The international break couldn’t have come at a better time.
