Tim Vickery: Can't believe that Arsenal will go for Gabriel Jesus and Leeds United winger Raphinha

BBC South American football correspondent Tim Vickery finds it hard to believe that Arsenal will sign Leeds United winger Raphinha and Gabriel Jesus this summer.

The Daily Mail reported on 20 June that Arsenal are set to make a £50million bid for the Leeds United winger.

However, The Daily Mail also reported on 20 June that agents of Jesus are flying to England to step up his departure from Manchester City with the Gunners reportedly interested.

Vickery believes that the chances of both Brazilian internationals moving to The Emirates is unlikely due to Jesus’ preference to play out wide.

Talking on talkSPORT on Tuesday 21 June, Vickery said: “He’s had a bad time for Brazil, where he played up front and didn’t score a goal and there’s been a feeling ever since that he doesn’t want to play at centre forward and he’d rather be a wide striker.

“Are they really chasing Jesus and Raphinha together?

“Jesus’ preference is to play wide, Brazil coach Tite told me this.

“I can’t believe that Arsenal will go for both of them.”

Spot on

Vickery raises a very good point that has been looked over in the Raphinha to Arsenal transfer saga.

There has been no secret in Arsenal’s long-standing interest in Jesus but would the Gunners really bring two marquee signings that could well play the same position.

Jesus has been more effective for City when deployed out wide and would more than likely want to feature in a similar role for the Gunners.

If Arsenal do only target one of the Brazil internationals then it could be a huge boost for Leeds’ hopes of holding onto their main man.

Raphinha’s dream Barcelona move looks to have hit a brick wall and the Gunners are the only side to register firm Premier League interest in the 25-year-old.

However, even the most optimistic of Leeds fans would be surprised to see the winger remain at Elland Road this summer.

He is in the prime of his career and needs to test himself at the highest level possible.

In other Leeds United news, Fabrizio Romano has shared if a ‘Sensational’ defensive midfielder has agreed terms for an Elland Road switch and become the club’s fourth summer signing.
