TalkSPORT pundit Lucy Ward slams Leeds United for Kalvin Phillips-Manchester City deal
Lucy Ward has slammed Leeds United for letting Kalvin Phillips join Manchester City for such a low transfer fee this summer.
The former Leeds Women’s star believes that it is a nightmare scenario for the team, but not one that took the fans by surprise.
However, she is not happy with the fact that the Citizens are only paying an initial £42million to sign the 26-year-old. [Athletic on June 24]
Ward told talkSPORT, “As far as Leeds are concerned it’s a nightmare, but one that all of the fans were expecting.
“He’s done incredibly well. Marcelo Bielsa obviously took him that step further in terms of the position that he played and I think that Pep Guardiola will take him further again with the way that he plays in that system. He’s the sort of player that Man City will benefit from.
“I can’t understand how Leeds have not got more money for him.

“I’d have probably added another £10m and I’m sure that Leeds could have held out and I heard whispers a few weeks back that it was all sorted so I knew that he was going.
“He deserves it, but I think that Leeds need to benefit from the money and obviously, the more money the better.

Phillips was also being linked with a move to PSG who have got deeper pockets than City and would probably have paid more than the agreed amount.
Leeds could have sparked a bidding war as they are doing with Raphinha and sold the Englishman to the highest bidder.
However, it seems like they did not put up too much of a fight to determine the final price and just agreed to the sale.
This is disappointing business by the club and they need to make things right by signing an adept replacement for the 26-year-old.
Victor Orta must have a list of midfielders he considered signing over the last two years and needs to accelerate negotiations with at least two of them.
Hopefully, they have a replacement ready to travel with the team for pre season rather than having someone join days before the new season begins.
In other Leeds United news, Fabrizio Romano has shared if a ‘Sensational’ defensive midfielder has agreed terms for an Elland Road switch and become the club’s fourth summer signing.
