Swansea City set for £2m windfall if Leeds United secure promotion
Leeds United will need to pay Swansea City a £2million fee if they are able to secure Premier League promotion, according to The Pembrokeshire Herald.
The newspaper reported via its website [11 May] that Joel Piroe’s transfer to Elland Road last summer involved a £2million add-on if Leeds were able to achieve promotion this season.
It is understood that, while the transfer fee was undisclosed, it is expected to rise as high as £10million with the add-on, highlighting the club’s confidence in Piroe.
Leeds United to pay £2million to Swansea City if Premier League promotion is achieved
While the 24-year-old has struggled in the second half of the season, scoring just twice since mid-February, his impact has been understated somewhat.
Due to Patrick Bamford’s spike in form this season, Piroe has been made to settle for a spot on the bench for several matches, but has still managed to accumulate 31 league starts for the Whites.
Daniel Farke clearly believes in the forward and has repaid that faith with 13 goals and three assists in the Championship. He could be key if Leeds are to pip Norwich City, Southampton and West Brom to promotion.
Having missed out on automatic promotion to Ipswich Town on the final day of the season, the Whites will need to navigate the Championship play-offs, starting with a clash with Norwich at Carrow Road.

Farke will be hoping his side can bring back a comfortable lead to Elland Road on Sunday 4 May before the second leg kicks off on Thursday 16 May.
If Piroe can have an important say in the club’s success this season, the £2million fee will seem like nothing to the Whites as they climb back up to England’s top division.
