Supercomputer predicts where Leeds will finish in Premier League
The Athletic has predicted, via data received from Stats Perform, that Leeds United are set for a top-half finish this season.
Leeds’ 2-1 victory at Manchester City temporarily put them in 9th place – ahead of Arsenal who had a game in hand over them.
The Gunners ended up winning their game, and with both teams having played the same number of matches, the Whites are level on points, but their inferior goal difference sees them sit in 10th.
That’s the position The Athletic expects them to finish in, giving them a 33 percent probability of finishing there.
The Elland Road faithful would certainly take a top-half finish in their first season back in the Premier League, but with slim chances of making the European places, there will be some hope going into the final stretch of the season.
Europa League within reach
Assuming Manchester City win the Carabao Cup final and a team already qualified for next season’s Champions League wins the FA Cup, 7th place can get us a place in the Europa League qualifying rounds.
We know that’s a tad ambitious, but we’re currently four points behind 7th-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
While we’ve recently hit a good run of form, teams around us – Tottenham, Everton, and Arsenal – have struggled to find consistency.
Now, with our defenders back to full fitness and most of Bielsa’s preferred players available for selection, why shouldn’t we dare to dream?
We’re still rank outsiders and Athletic only gives us a 2.4 percent chance but stranger things have happened in this competition, and we’re hoping lady luck shines brightly on us in the business end of the campaign.
Our next three games are against Liverpool, Manchester United and Brighton. They might not be the ideal fixtures, but if we can eke out five or six points from these games we’re certainly in with a shout.
