Leeds United will have to pay upwards of £8million if they want to land Barnsley’s Callum Styles this summer, according to The72.
The online outlet claim a source has told them that it will take more than £8million to secure the services of the Tykes left wing-back who Brighton are readying a bid for.
Leeds interest in the 21-year-old was reported last week by Football League World who said Southampton and Norwich City were also in the hunt for a player that has made waves in the Championship this season.
Styles has scored four goals and laid on two assists in 37 appearances despite playing the majority (30) at left wing-back. [WhoScored]
His rampaging runs down the wing have helped to inspire the South Yorkshire side to sixth place as they eye a route to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Award winner represents value for money
There’s no denying we’re in the market for one or two left-backs this summer with Ezgjan Alioski likely to leave and clubs will surely use that to drive up asking prices.
Romain Perraud has been heavily linked [Daily Mail] and he would surely be installed as the first-choice if he came through the door.
But with Stuart Dallas impressing in midfield Perraud would require competition and therefore a cut-price option for a young talent would make sense.
Styles has been a sensation for the Tykes this season and if we could bring him in for less than £10million that would surely represent a snip, especially considering the English tax applied to those born in this country.
He was voted the EFL Young Player of the Month [Yorkshire Post] in February and looks a real talent.
A deal could be a bit more difficult if the Championship outfit get promoted this season as it would lessen their need to sell but if Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa want him, we’re sure we’ll get our man.
