Stuart Dallas calls out Leeds United star on Sky Sports after Preston draw
Stuart Dallas called out Illan Meslier on Sky Sports after Leeds United rescued a 1-1 draw at Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday.
A late Jack Whatmough own-goal salvaged a point for the Whites on 14 December after a 23rd-minute goal from Brad Potts almost made the visitors pay for an underwhelming away trip.
Meslier was guilty of not doing enough to stop Potts’ near-post shot from going in and Dallas did not hesitate to criticise the goalkeeper despite sharing the dressing room with him.
“It’s a really, really good goal for Preston to score, but it’s such a poor goal for Leeds to concede”, Dallas said on Sky Sports (14 December, 2:44 pm).
“You see here, Struijk dives in as well, does he need to do that? And then the desire from Potts to get to the end of it, he just beats Bogle in a race.
“Meslier needs to save it, there’s no getting away from it. He’s got a hand on it, he’s not outstretched, he should save it.
“Listen, Daniel Farke will be really, really disappointed with how they’ve conceded that.”
Stuart Dallas criticises Illan Meslier after Leeds United draw v Preston
Meslier has been a key player for the West Yorkshire outfit since initially arriving on loan from Lorient during Marcelo Bielsa’s time in 2019.
However, the 24-year-old is susceptible to errors and has often been criticised for his decision-making this season, with Danny Mills mocking him for an incident in Leeds United’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday (10 December).
Some fans have called for Karl Darlow to be given a chance over the Frenchman, but Farke has stuck with him for the time being.
Meanwhile, the goalkeeper is being linked with a move away from Elland Road ahead of the January transfer window.
Ligue 1 outfit Rennes have been credited with an interest in Meslier, who, for his part, could be tempted to leave the Whites [TEAMtalk].

However, it is hard to see Farke sanctioning a transfer for Meslier in January as the Yorkshire club looks to earn their way back into the Premier League.
Leeds United, though, may need an upgrade in the goalkeeping department if they earn promotion.
