Illan Meslier could be tempted to leave Leeds United amid interest from Ligue 1 side Rennes, according to TEAMtalk.

The online news outlet reports [10 December] that the Frenchman is happy at Elland Road and focused on securing Premier League promotion with the Whites.

However, Rennes are preparing on offer for Leeds and the goalkeeper may be tempted by the lure of European football down the line, amid claims the West Yorkshire outfit must move on from Meslier to secure promotion this year.

Leeds, for their part, do not want to sell a player who has started every Championship game so far this season.

Illan Meslier could leave Leeds United

The 24-year-old has shown great determination to aid Leeds' promotion bid this term - he has bounced back from his match-costing error in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland to keep seven clean sheets since.

Leeds are well on track to secure a long-awaited Premier League return this term and would undoubtedly continue with Meslier between the sticks into the top flight next season.

But still, Rennes competed in the Europa League last year, and while the Ligue 1 outfit are without European football for the 2024/25 campaign, Jorge Sampaoli's side are only nine points adrift of the European places.

Daniel Farke is already preparing to bolster his forward line in January and could do without the headache of replacing his first-choice goalkeeper midway through a promotion-chasing campaign.

Therefore, the Whites would be best served to thwart interest from Rennes for the time being, and can reassess the situation at the end of the season once there is clarity on whether or not top-flight football will be played at Elland Road.
