Leeds United are on the lookout for a striker but the new hitman won’t be Jonathan David, according to Goal.
They claim that Gent have agreed a £27m club-record deal with Lille for David in a transfer that should be announced next week.
Leeds weren’t the only other club after him, with Arsenal and Man United just two of the other interested parties.
But, according to Goal, the Leeds’ interest was serious and the Gent chairman had said that Leeds had put in a better offer than one initially rejected by the Belgian club.
Leeds move on
It seems that David himself wanted to move to Lille, so we move on and focus on looking for players who are desperate to wear the White in the Premier League. That’s the most important thing.
We liked the look of David but the 20-year-old was always going to be an unknown quantity in the Premier League, despite good numbers behind him.
The Premier League is a massive step-up from the Jupiler Pro League and his 11 goals for Canada have come against the likes of Haiti and French Guiana.
MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson believes that Leeds should concentrate on bringing a proven goal-scorer to Leeds this summer.
He thinks that Josh King or Callum Wilson would fit the bill and we think Ollie Watkins is another name that will be on Bielsa’s list.
We’ll be watching David’s season with interest though and hope he doesn’t turn into the next Erling Haaland.
