We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has been left shocked by Matty Longstaff’s decision not to sign a new contract at Newcastle, amid interest from Leeds.
Sky Sports reported that the player – who was playing on an £850/wk contract at Newcastle – had received a lucrative contract offer from Udinese.
Longstaff has refused to sign a new contract with Newcastle and the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath revealed that Leeds had joined the hunt for his signature.
Newcastle journalist Miles Starforth said on Monday that he was yet to make a decision on his future.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Matty Longstaff would be a good addition for any team, not just Leeds. He’s a really good player.
“I just can’t understand why he’s not signed the contract on offer at Newcastle – the opportunities he has there, the way he’s broken into the team, the way the fans have taken to him as one of their own straight away.
“Steve Bruce is saying Udinese were offering slightly more than Newcastle, I just don’t get why he hasn’t signed there.
“He’s come through the ranks there and unless he was getting offered a lot more money or it was a significantly big move, I just don’t get why he wouldn’t sign with Newcastle.”
Longstaff will be well known to Leeds United fans after he scored twice against Man United in the 19/20 season.
Available on a free and with Sky claiming Udinese were offering him £15k-a-week, he could be one of the steals of the summer.
