Steven Gerrard still sees Danny Ings as integral for Aston Villa despite Leeds United links – Sky Sports
Simon Thomas has reported live on Sky Sports that Steven Gerrard still sees Danny Ings as an integral part of his squad despite links with Leeds United.
The “breaking news” came out of nowhere, although it is no secret that the Whites and Jesse Marsch are in the market for a new striker this summer.
Ings enjoyed an inconsistent 2021-22 season in the Premier League, and never really got going 100%, although a move away from Villa Park now looks unlikely.

Speaking live on Sky Sports on Monday [13 June], as shared on Twitter, Thomas shared the latest news and reaction regarding a potential move.
“The breaking news concerns the Aston Villa striker Danny Ings,” he said.
“The news is that Aston Villa have no intention of selling Danny Ings, you might have seen those reports linking him with a possible move to Manchester United or Leeds United, and it had been suggested that Aston Villa may be open to offers for the striker, he only joined from Southampton in August of last year for a £25million deal, signing on a three-year deal.
“Sky Sports News has been told in the last few minutes that Steven Gerrard sees him as an integral part of the squad.”
No chance.
This would have been a smart move from Leeds, but it would have cost a hefty sum.
Aston Villa would never have accepted anything much lower than the £25million they paid last summer, and with his big wages, that would likely have made it another club-record deal for the Whites.
If that was the case, we would much prefer someone younger coming in who has been smashing in goals for fun in recent years, rather than someone who is as inconsistent as Ings.
The England international is capable of the spectacular, there is no doubting that, but his injury record alongside normal consistency, this would be a waste.
Victor Orta will be exploring his options with no doubt a long shortlist at hand, but this looks as though it is another name he can cross off alongside Eddie Nketiah.
Onto the next one, with the final third in desperate need of strengthening at Elland Road.
