Steve McLaren blown away by Leeds winger Raphinha in Premier League

Steve McLaren has been blown away by the impact of Leeds United winger Raphinha since his arrival from Rennes in October.

The Brazilian made it five goals and five assists for the season in the 3-0 win over Southampton, finishing the game off with a brilliant free-kick.

Sky Sports pundit, McLaren claimed that the South American has proven that he is “perfect” for the Whites and the English top-flight.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, McLaren has been awestruck by the impact that the Brazilian has made in the Premier League.

“It is perfect for Raphinha and he’s one of those little gems that somebody pulls out that adapts very quickly to the Premier League, which is a difficult league to adapt to,” he said.

“He’s done it very well. Sometimes you can get soft, silky South Americans – he looks tough, rugged and strong. (It’s) great mentality – perfect for the Premier League.”

Raphinha has been superb.

The 24-year-old has the best WhoScored average match rating alongside Patrick Bamford in the entire Leeds squad, despite playing five fewer games.

The Brazilian completes the most dribbles and key passes in the Whites squad, with his influence clear to see in every single game this season.

What will be frightening for other teams, is that Raphinha is surely only going to get better as his experience of the Premier League continues to grow under Marcelo Bielsa.

McLaren isn’t the first, and he isn’t the last to shower praise on the winger, who is exactly how he is described; “perfect.”
