Sky Sports pundit reacts to controversy in Leeds United v Brentford Premier League clash
Tony Gale believes that Brentford deserved a penalty in the first half against Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.
Ivan Toney was brought down after a clash with Luis Sinisterra and took the officials a good amount of time before handing the penalty.
The Englishman then put the ball into the back of the net to give the Bees a lead at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Speaking on the Premier League world feed, the Sky Sports pundit said, “As the leg comes across, I’m like it’s definitely a penalty. It does look like a foul on Toney. A tad untidy but a little bit clumsy and I think it’s the right call.”
The fact that referee Robert Jones was not satisfied despite looking at the replay on the monitors suggests that he probably wanted to stand by his decision.
The early protests were waved off but VAR asked him to go and take a look at his monitor and he eventually gave in and pointed to the spot.
These soft calls usually are not given and there was no malice, but mainly a coming together between the two players.
On any other day, this would never have been given as a foul but it’s just Leeds’ luck and they now have to deal with it and come back stronger in the second half.
Being down 2-1 is unacceptable and we’re expecting Jesse Marsch to have a go at his players at the break.
They cannot keep playing like this if they want to improve on last season and had it not been for Luis Sinisterra’s goal, things would’ve been a lot more complicated.
