Sky Sports pundit gushes over Leeds United defender Max Wober v Wolves

David Phillips has been blown away by Max Wober’s goal-saving block in the first half of Leeds United v Wolves on Saturday, 18 March.

The hosts had a glorious chance to score in the first half through Nelson Semedo, but Wober put his body on the line to keep it out.

That was important as Leeds went into the break with a 1-0 lead and ended up winning a thrilling encounter by a 4-2 scoreline at the Molineux Stadium.

Phillips, a Sky Sports pundit, said on the Premier League world feed (18/03, 15:27), “That’s an unbelievable block from Wober. You see him turning his back slightly but it’s such an important block.”

Solid defending

Wober was class all game and it shows. He was a thorn in the Wolves’ attack and kept their attackers at bay in what was one of his better performances for Leeds.

He may have deflected the second goal unintentionally but that was just because he was putting his body on the line all game. The Austrian was brought in as a left-back but is showing that he can be a centre-back too if he keeps on playing like this.

Javi Gracia wasn’t the one to bring him on but will be impressed by his performance and versatility and we will not be surprised if he plays in midfield in the future as well.

It was a smart piece of business that Jesse Marsch sanctioned and the fruits of that are being born by his successor who’s enjoyed a good start to life at Elland Road.

It can be argued that this was his best performance since moving to the club in the January transfer window.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
