Sky Sports: Leeds in advanced talks for Spain int’l centre-back, deal close

Leeds United are in advanced talks over a move for Real Sociedad centre-back Diego Llorente, according to Sky Sports.

The news was dropped on Tuesday’s Good Morning Transfers show and then posted by Sky Sports reporter Bryan Swanson.

Swanson said that a deal was close for the 27-year-old Spain international.

Llorente came up through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but only made three appearances for the Spanish giants.

Another major move

This has surprised us.

After a move for Josko Gvardiol fell through, we were expecting Leeds to go in for another centre-back but not one at this level.

Llorente is a current Spain international and played in the Euro qualifiers last year.

He was on the bench for the last two Spain games, against Germany and Ukraine.

Real Sociedad bought the defender for £6m three years ago from Real Madrid and Transfermarkt claim that his current market value is £18m.

That’s roughly the same price that Leeds were going to pay for Gvardiol so the figures match up.

However, would he be cover for Robin Koch or would he be seen as a number one choice alongside Liam Cooper?

One thing is certain, it would give Leeds the depth in the centre of defence that they need for a proper assault on the Premier League.
