Sky Sports: Leeds United could replace Raphinha with Paris-Saint Germain wonder Arnaud Kalimuendo

Leeds United could make their move to sign Paris Saint-Germain wonder Arnaud Kalimuendo to replace Raphinha, according to Sky Sports.

Sharing news of a £17.1million bid from the Independent on their live blog (11:15 am, 16 June), it was mooted that the Brazilian is set for the exit with Barcelona, Arsenal and Spurs mentioned.

It is said that any move for the young striker who has spent recent seasons on loan at Lens could be difficult and include potential buy-back clauses.

Victor Orta has been in the market for a striker with the 2021-22 season a nightmare in that department.

Patrick Bamford played only nine times, leading to failed experiments with Dan James and Rodrigo – Joe Gelhardt being the only bright light at Elland Road.

Raphinha was the top scorer, of course, but talk of his dream Barcelona move just won’t go away no matter how much of a financial crisis the Spanish side are in.

Kalimuendo started 27 games last season, playing as a centre-forward in 26 of those, and on the left once, so it is hard to see how he would be a direct replacement for Raphinha.

No chance.

We are very intrigued by the links with Kalimuendo, of course, but in no world would it be to replace our main man Raphinha should he seal a blockbuster exit.

The 20-year-old scored some cracking goals, looks to have great pace and can run defences all day long, something that would be wasted as a winger.

Jesse Marsch does prefer to play more centrally though, we saw that in his 4-2-2-2 formation after he arrived, so the young attacker would no doubt be used centrally.

Kalimuendo would surely love the chance to come to Elland Road and prove himself in the Premier League, with there being little chance of consistent football at PSG behind the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

That has to be taken into account, but hitting double figures at Lens last season proves he can perform at that level if he was given the chance.

This is certainly one to watch with much on the line both coming in and going out.
