Sky Sports: Leeds duo could be handed debuts in FA Cup clash v Arsenal

Illan Meslier and Robbie Gotts could earn their Leeds United debuts in the FA Cup third round clash against Arsenal on Monday, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that Meslier, 19, hopes to replace Kiko Casilla in goals for the Whites’ trip to the Emirates for his first appearance in English football.

Meslier has spent almost the entire season on the bench since joining Leeds on loan from Lorient in the summer but could finally be handed his debut by Marcelo Bielsa early next week.

Sky Sports adds that Gotts, 20, might also be in line for his debut.

The Harrogate-born youngster can play in a number of different positions including right-back and the centre of the midfield so it remains to be seen where he would fit into Bielsa’s line-up should he start.

Either way, it is about time we got to see Gotts in action as he has been on the bench as an unused substitute 19 times this season without making an appearance.

Bielsa is likely to make changes to the trip to Arsenal with his priority no doubt being to win automatic promotion from the Championship.

His side have had a number of injury issues as of late and this could be the Argentine’s chance to rest some key starts and test the mettle of his fringe players.

It’s unlikely that players like Meslier or Gotts would replace whoever they come into the side for when the Championship action resumes but it will still be good for them to get some well-deserved game-time.
