Sky Sports duo make ruthless Leeds United player call in new video
Sky Sports duo Simeon Gholam and David Prutton have made the “ruthless” call to include Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville in their Championship team of the season so far.
The Dutchman has been in inspired form in recent weeks, picking up the Championship Player of the Month award for October, having scored five goals and picking up a further three assists as the Whites climbed to third in the Championship.
His recent exceptional form saw him included in the Sky Sports duo’s team of the season so far, where they made the ruthless call to drop Plymouth Argyle’s Morgan Whittaker in favour of the Leeds United winger.
Speaking on Sky Sports (21 November), Gholam said: “Morgan Whittaker made team one and team two, but he’s not making team three of the season so far. Ruthless, chopped, gone. We’re instead going with a man who has skyrocketed into contention in the last few weeks.”
Prutton explained: “He’s part of a front four which I think on its day is possibly the best front four in the Championship. Crysencio Summerville is this player that’s stepping forward, of course, playing with Georginio Rutter, playing with Joel Piroe and Daniel James.
“Bit of speculation at the start of the season about him wanting to move on because he saw a lot of his teammates move on, but he stuck around and it’s been mutually beneficial for both player and team because Leeds’ performances have picked up and his ability to change games has picked up.
“His influence on games has grown, I’m just intrigued to see what happens in January.”
Some talent
Before a ball was kicked this season, most Leeds United supporters and neutrals alike expected Wilfried Gnonto to be the Whites’ star man, given his impressive debut season in the Premier League, but Summerville has stopped that being the case.
This is a player that was widely criticised by his manager last year, but since Leeds have dropped into the Championship, the 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength and now has to be considered one of the division’s best players.
Prutton’s verdict that Daniel Farke currently has the best front four in the division is hard to disagree with and becomes even more impressive when you consider that he has left Gnonto, Patrick Bamford and Jaidon Anthony on the bench for much of the season.
Keeping the likes of Summerville and Rutter at Elland Road beyond the January transfer window will be no easy task for the Whites, but it could well be season-defining as they are the sort of players to decide matches at this level.
