Sky Sports commentator praises Joe Gelhardt despite omission from Leeds United win v Crystal Palace

Leeds United secured their third Premier League win of the season on Tuesday night, leaving it late to bag a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa was without Patrick Bamford last night (30 November) despite his return to action in the under-23s clash with their Manchester City counterparts on Monday, and while the Argentine opted against playing Joe Gelhardt, it did not stop Daniel Mann from showering praise on the teenager during the coverage on Premier League productions.

The 19-year-old has featured in three league games this season, but he did not come off the bench in the last two games.

The Sky Sports commentator said as Rodrigo prepared to come on ahead of the second half: “In the absence of Patrick Bamford, they have certainly gone through all the options, young Joe Gelhardt showed some very promising glimpses at Tottenham.

“You might argue in terms of the out-and-out strikers they do have outside of Bamford, he would be the more talented.

“But perhaps, maybe not quite yet able to quite deliver the ton of physical demands that Marcelo Bielsa places on his frontmen, everybody else frankly as well.”

Prodigy

Gelhardt is not even having to play before getting accolades these days, and that speaks volumes.

He has shown what he is capable of doing, and there is definitely much more to see from him.

Leeds will be playing six games in December, and while Bamford and Rodrigo should be leading the line, the teenage striking sensation will most likely be getting some minutes too.

They face Brentford, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa next, and Gelhardt will be working his socks off in training in order to impress Bielsa.

The Liverpool-born forward will particularly be keen to make an appearance against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds at Anfield on boxing day, and that will be huge.

The Whites have quite the gem on their hands, and he could soon be tearing it up sooner rather than later.

Leeds have some of the best youngsters in the land in their youth squads, and they could be competing for major honours very soon if they manage to hold on to the most of them.

In other Leeds United news, a major update on Whites January bid to sign attacker has been provided, with pen-to-paper imminent.
