Leeds United desperately wanted to bring Ben White back to the club this summer but it wasn’t to be as Brighton point-blank refused to sell.

But it seems that White wanted to come back to Leeds just as much.

In an article on Sky Sports, White, through his agent Alex Levack, declared that he was “disappointed” that the move to Leeds fell through after three bids were tabled.

Asked whether White was disappointed, Levack said, “Of course. He enjoyed his time at Leeds incredibly. They looked after him so well, the fans were fantastic to him.

“But when a football club don’t want to sell it’s very difficult.”

Leeds tabled three offers, the highest being £25m, before Brighton said they would not sell to the Whites.

White ended up signing a new contract with Brighton this week, after rejecting three contract offers amid the Leeds interest.

Door will always be open

Ben White enjoyed his time at Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa turned him into a superstar.

We know that White is very good friends with Kalvin Phillips and he has other ties in the area.

The fact that we wanted him and he wanted to come back makes the saga double disappointing.

Brighton fans have been crowing since White signed his new contract but this leaves things evenly balanced as far as the fan banter goes.

White might be a Brighton player but he wanted to be at Leeds and we wouldn’t necessarily slam the door shut at this time.

One disappointing season for Brighton and White might become available.

Given the ties, we’d expect Leeds to be front of the queue as and when that happens.

Some fans have turned on White after he failed to put in a transfer request. That’s silly. He was a huge player for Leeds and helped us back to the Premier League.

Hopefully, this puts all that to bed for good.
