Simon Weaver left impressed by Leeds United winger Jordan Stevens
Harrogate boss Simon Weaver was impressed by Leeds United winger Jordan Stevens in the League Two side’s latest pre-season friendly.
Harrogate beat Newcastle United’s Under-23s 2-1 and Stevens, on trial with Harrogate, set up the winner and left Weaver impressed as the 21-year-old potentially nears the exit door at Elland Road.
Stevens only has a year left on his contract and hasn’t played for the first team since July 2020, so this was a good opportunity to show what he could do and perhaps impress Marcelo Bielsa as well.
Either way, Weaver liked what he saw [the Harrogate Advertiser].
He said: “I thought he did well; he contributed to the game.
“He’s technically very good – as you can see – but he’s going to be, coming from Leeds United.
“We’re just having an early look at him.”
Stevens to leave?
Bielsa has a lot of options on both wings at Leeds, so you would think that Stevens’ chances this season will be very limited.
Perhaps it would be best for him to go out on loan again or even leave permanently. It is hard to see how he gets anywhere near the first team as it stands, barring a huge swathe of injuries.
It is good to see that Stevens did well for Harrogate in this match, and hopefully, this leads somewhere for the 21-year-old who must be running out of chances at Elland Road.
Of course, he could still end up staying and seeing out his contract, but that would probably be pretty pointless, and we urge him to go and get some first-team football either on loan or permanently.
It will be interesting to see what Harrogate decide to do, and it was nice to hear Weaver praising Stevens. Hopefully, it leads to either a loan or a permanent deal for the 21-year-old.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are plotting a move for a Spanish international winger.
